So why drink milk?

Milk has been keeping people healthy since biblical times, if not before. Milk and honey symbolized good health in those times, along with prosperity and blessings from God. It was hard to keep milk fresh in those times before the refrigerator (not to mention electricity), so a fermentation process was used to make yogurt, cheese, and butter. Butter was referred to as curds in the bible, although it was not used for cooking in those times, olive oil generally was.

Milk has contained what is necessary for survival for millions of years. Each cup of milk contains the following:
- 157 calories
- 11.9 Mg carbohydrates
8.4g of protein
250 mg calcium
8.4 g of protein
Vitamin A 15% of minimum daily requirement
Vitamin D 25% MDR
Sodium 126 mg

We know calcium to help build strong bones in children, and it slows osteoporosis in the elderly. Milk lowers high blood pressure and cholesterol. It attacks bacterial infections, and helps prevent dental cavities.

Milk has been shown in research to even stop some cancers from developing. In 1985, scientists at the University of California in San Diego published the results of a 20 year old study conducted on milk and colon cancer. The study involved 2,000 men. The results were those who drank 2.5 glasses a day of milk
were far less likely to get colon cancer. Their risk of developing the disease was decreased by a third.

Milk has a high calcium and Vitamin D content. Two to three cups a day of Vitamin D fortified skim milk can help prevent against colon cancer. Milk acts like an antibody to fight off infections. Another place it is useful is protecting the gastrointestinal system. In biblical times a gastro infection could be fatal, as there was no penicillin and other modern drugs.
