For many years and tens of years the people of the mountainous areas of the Himalayas have
eatern large amounts of wild apricot known as kubani. Kubani is known to give
the people there good health and a long lasting life. Apricots are high in 'beta-carotene,'
and fiber content. There was a scientist named G.S Whippe. He was the winner of
the nobel prize, and he said that 'apricots are equal to the liver
in hemoglobin regeneration.' This means they help to clean the blood, and also help us
to mantain our looks. The high beta-carotene content can even slow the process of aging.
In a study of 1,000 men, researchers gave half the men a high beta-carotene diet, while
simply observed the other half without any diet of beta-carotene. Of the 500 men that
had a high beta-carotene diet, only two of them men developed lung cancer while in the other group
without the diet, 14 men developed lung cancer. So beta carotene is very important in the
bloodstream.
Dried apricots may even be better then the raw fruit, as 10 dried apricot halves equal up to
three raw apricots in terms of the beta carotene content.
A single apricot contains only 17 calories, 0.4 grams of fat with no cholesterol,
vitamin A (2,768 international units of beta carotene, or over half of the full day's recommended
intake, Vitamin C (11 milligrams, or 16% of the recommended daily intake) some of the B vitamins,
plus potassium, copper, iron and calcium.
